A soft drink is a drink that typically contains carbonated_water (although lemonades among others, are usually not carbonated), a sweetener, and a natural or artificial flavouring. The sweetener may be sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, fruit juice, sugar substitutes (in the case of diet drinks), or some combination of these.

Soft drinks may also contain caffeine, colourings, preservatives, and otheri ngredients. Over a billion people drank close to six billion litres of soft drinks last year in India according to Oct 2016 report in nielsen.com. In that year, Coco Cola's market share in India amounted to 33.7 percent. The leading 3 soft drink companies in India had a market share of 71.7 percent. As 2016 welcomes the soft drink makers with some innovative launches, there is tremendous development in soft drink market in India. Not only, Indian made brands, but global brands are also joining the ‘Make in India’ wave by launching drinks that suits to the Indian palate. One of India's leading voluntary agencies, the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) said that soft drinks manufactured in India, including those carrying the Pepsi and Coca-Cola brand names, contain unacceptably high levels of pesticide residues and consequently many farmers have used the beverages to combat pests because of low costs compared to conventional pesticide brands.

In the present work we have tried to include many evidence from recent scientific studies and it was carried to generate. awareness regarding myths and facts among the public.
